Good-bys and Hellos: The Journey Begins...

Second blog entry, Have no idea how I reversed the order.
Three hours of sleep and I m so psyched for the day!  Why, you may be asking? Because today is uber-nature day on this Fourth of July.  The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone are both on our agenda, but before I can explore them, I promised to bring you up to date on our trip.

First, good-bys to the families in Ohio. My post-college age children hugged me, said they loved me and then, as they turned away, said loud enough for me to hear, "Yay, Mom's gone. Month long party!" (I love my children).

Up in the Cleveland area, Kelly's husband shared his love for us travelers by picking up our rental van and making it quite tech-savvy--GPS, WiFi, power strip. It was lookin' good--until we packed it...

After Kelly said a tearful good-by to Brody, (how can you not love this face?), we were on our way.

Highlights of the first few days:

1)  Chicago Pizza

lovin' it!

2) Spam Museum

an American classic

3) The Badlands and Mt, Rushmore

                                                  totally AWESOME!

                                                              met Teddy!

And now the moment you've been waiting for--the trip low-light:
We packed a cooler in the midst of all that luggage above.  A promise of cool water on a hot day. A place for all that healthy food Kelly bought. A safe storage area for insulin.  But God snickered a bit at our plans. The cooler had no plug. Yep! Water everywhere. The quasi-good news? We are the proud owners of an electric cooler. Gary would be so proud of the latest bit of equipment we bought!

if we could only figure out how it works...

Now, on to those Grand Tetons!
Happy Fourth, everyone!
